Watersports
If chilling on a boat doesn't float your boat, or diving with sharks and rays doesn't have enough bite, then perhaps the excellent local windsurfing or kitesurfing will. Our near constant onshore trade winds and warm shallow waters, protected by the mile-off barrier reef, provide ideal conditions for beginners and intermediates. The lagoon provides great runs of at least five miles with bump and jump conditions the whole way. Closer to the reef, where the waves have broken, there are miles of flat water for speeding.
For the more serious surfer there is plenty of excitement on offer. Out by the Swash, head high waves are frequent as the reef sinks deeper. For the most experienced a trip outside of the reef and into the deep blue waters provides endless big waves, peaks and swells.
Local wind/kite surf shop Small Craft Warning is located close to cayereef and can supply tuition, equipment and information.
